On Monday 18th May, Tom and Edward were invited to spend the afternoon at the Mayor’s Parlour with the winners from other local schools. The Mayor explained how she had personally read all 200 entries in a recent competition and they had then been read and assessed by independent people to ensure the judging was fair.
The competition was set by the Mayor in order for her to find out what children thought about their local area, Weymouth and Portland.
The presentation was made by the Mayor and her husband, Mr Weller, who spoke to each winner individually stating what he had particularly liked about their letter. The children were then presented with a certificate and a book token and the Dorset Echo took their photograph.
After all the presentations had been made, the children enjoyed a drink and biscuits and the Mayor spent time talking with each child.
