WYKE REGIS PRIMARY FEDERATION

Governing Body

Welcome to the page detailing the Governors of Wyke Regis Primary Federation, Governors are responsible for overseeing the management side of a school: strategy, policy, budgeting and staffing. They enable their school to run as effectively as possible, working alongside senior leaders (who are responsible for running the school day to day) and supporting teachers to provide excellent education to children.

As Chair of the Governing Body at Wyke Regis Federation I lead a dedicated governing body who are all committed to working with the school senior leadership team and all school staff to ensure our schools deliver the best possible education to the children, in a safe, supportive and welcoming environment here in the heart of the local community in Wyke Regis.

I have a long association with the Federation … back to the 1930’s!  My father, my wife and I myself all attended the junior school and my two children attended both the Infant and Junior Schools.  Living as close to the school as I do,  I have literally seen it just about every day of my life.

The framework and constraints that schools operate under in the 2020’s is challenging to say the least, there are tough performance requirements, very tight financial constraints (made worse by cost of living pressures and large inflationary rises we are all facing) and more children than ever needing additional support.

The task ahead remains tough, but I am convinced that if staff, senior leadership, governors, parents and friends of the federation all work together and keep the children and their education at the heart of all we do, the tasks ahead will be easier to achieve.

I always welcome the opportunity to meet and chat with parents, please do stop and talk to me if you see me around the schools. If in the meantime you need to speak to me, or make me aware of something,  you can contact me via the school office(s) or by email.

The full governing body meet every half term and ensure that the school meets its statutory duties. Governors are also organised into two main committees: School Improvement and Finance & Environment in order to undertake their work. A further Pay Review committee undertakes the annual pay review.

The governing body have the authority to co-opt new governors in order to strengthen their skills as a body. Vacancies for parent governors are advertised in line with the DCC protocol.

It is hoped that if parents have a concern or a complaint about the school’s curriculum or other issues that they would, in the first instance, contact a class teacher or year leader.

If not resolved parents/carers should then contact the Assistant Head or Head of Federation. If you wish to make a formal complaint please email Gary Hepburn, Chair of Governors on or the Clerk to Governors on
