We love the topics we teach in year 5 and hope they inspire the children to think about and enjoy the world around them. The year starts with ‘Fit for Life’ where we learn about keeping healthy, diet, exercise and how our bodies work. Later in the term we go ‘Out of this World!’ to find out about planet Earth, the Solar System, space travel and beyond! A great term for budding scientists.
The Spring term is all about Saxons and Vikings – brought to life with a trip to the New Barn Field Centre, a study of the Pit of Doom and a Viking musical performance for the children to take part in.
In the Summer term we learn about ‘The Great Outdoors’. With trips to Weymouth Outdoor Education Centre, Lorton Meadows and our local coast, we celebrate life outside the classroom. We finish the year learning about Kenya, comparing our lives with children at our link school and learning about a totally different way of life.
