Music

Music and the Arts play a very important part of every day life in our federation.  We have achieved Artsmark Gold Award three times.

Children increase their confidence, self-esteem and concentration through taking part in exciting music lessons or belonging to one of our extra curricular music clubs. Music provides children with a means of self-expression and helps them to think creatively as well as promoting teamwork and self-discipline.

Enjoyment of music at a young age can foster lifelong enthusiasm and we aim to give our children a wide range of musical experiences.

Instrumental Lessons

Children in Year 3 learn to play the ocarina as part of their music curriculum and Year 4 children learn an  instrument with their whole class as part of the Dorset Music Service Musicianship Programme.

We offer instrumental lessons with visiting teachers on violin, drums, guitar, piano, oboe, flute, clarinet, trumpet and trombone.

Singing

We are a singing school and have achieved the Sing Up Gold Award. Singing as part of a large group has a real ‘feel good’ factor and we sing daily in assembly and as part of the wider curriculum.

Many of the children and also staff belong to one of our singing groups or choirs.

KS1 Singing Club

KS1 children can join singing club and have lots of fun singing songs and rounds. Their first performance at our Christmas Fair was a great success.

Ukelele Club

We have great fun with our ukuleles and this club is open to all year groups. Some teachers even come along too!

Music Club

Children in Year 4 can take part in Music Club. This includes a Junior Choir and a Recorder Group. The children enjoy making music of all kinds. Here is Music Club singing in Wyke Square at Christmas. (See below)

We are extremely proud of our large choir. Over the years we have sung at many exciting venues including the Royal Albert Hall and The Symphony Hall in Birmingham.

Here are some of our Y6s last year singing at “Lest We Forget’, a WW1 memorial concert at Bournemouth international Centre.

We also have great fun presenting shows and in the past we have performed Oliver, Annie, The Wizard of Oz and Mary Poppins. This year we are very excited to be performing ‘The Lion King’ and the children are looking forward to visit to the show in London soon.

Here we all are after our Christmas Carol Concert in All Saints Church, Wyke Regis.
